What is Diabetes Mellitus?

Diabetes Mellitus is a condition that occurs when the body can't process glucose (a sugar) normally.  Glucose is needed to fuel your body's cells.  Glucose levels in the body are controlled by a hormone called insulin which is made in the pancreas and helps transport insulin into cells.  

Types of Diabetes Mellitus:

There are two main types of Diabetes Mellitus. Type-1 diabetes (insulin dependent) occurs when the pancreas does not make insulin. Type-2 diabetes, the most common, occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin for your body's cells.  

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms include frequent urination, extreme thirst or dry mouth, weight loss, increased hunger, fatigue, and blurred vision.

About Our Practice 

 Sessoms Medical Associates, PLLC is owned and operated by Drs. Rodney and Kimberly Grigsby-Sessoms. The Clinton location opened in 1997 followed by the opening of the Rose Hill office.  Our practice serves the communities of Duplin and Sampson County located in rural Southeastern North Carolina. Office hours for each facility vary, however, we provide 24 hour services to various facilities and agencies in Southeastern North Carolina.
